When applying for this course my idea was to gain more confidence in dealing with the families and holding difficult conversations with the child and family. More than my expectations were met and I would like to thank PatchSA for this.

We have always held family meetings with our families at rehab but now I feel more comfortable and confident to be able to communicate effectively and with the empathy that they deserve. One very big take home point is that I do not always have to have all the answers and it is ok to admit to that. I often also found it difficult to keep my emotions in check as I thought it unprofessional to cry etc in these meetings, I am not glad that I do not need to be afraid to show emotion as I am human to.

I have also become a lot more confident on when and who to refer on to when needed. This is already something I have put into practice.

I am excited to have the knowledge and be able to advocate for our patients and their families so that they receive the care that they need and deserve.
