We use developmental screening tools like the Griffiths and the Molteno to identify the developmental level in children. There are various domains like gross motor, fine motor , language and personal/social that are used to identify children with developmental delays.
We also use behavioural screening tools like the MCHAT and the SNAP to identify children at high risk for autism spectrum disorder or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Challenges: some of these screening tools are long and some have up to 100 questions. These screening forms can take a long time to fill in clinic.
We can overcome this by sending these forms to the parents of the children booked for our clinic prior to their appointment so that they can fill them at home.
