During my time in a Children’s Hospital, assessment tools were not routinely used. The only tool I had available to me was the FLACC scale.
I found it very interesting learning about the various assessment tools that one can use for the different age groups. I would be very keen on implementing these into practice. I find that there are already so many barriers to effective communication with young children, any tools that could assist with facilitating better communication should not be slept on. I also find that children are far more responsive and interested when it comes to pictures, choices and having an opportunity to participate in the assessment process.
