      1.Decision making requires empathy, carefully considering the patient, family or care givers level of understanding, so as to make decisions based on the child’s needs.
      2.Assessment of the patient and family, must be holistic, strong clinical judgement to avoid unnecessary delays
      3.Managing parents or care givers concerns, expectations regarding the child’s management e. g when to refer the child diagnosed with malnutrition, for further management to mother hospital to Paediatrician (MDT) prioritising the child’s wellbeing
      4.Dilemma if care giver refuses vaccine, due to myths this needs health educating care giver so as to gain co-operation
      5.Managing a child on chronic medication, a grandmom caring for a grandson without knowing the status of her late daughter, especially ARV’s which becomes a burden to the care giver because of the demands e g regular clinic visits, compliance to treatment, lifestyle modification
      6.Effective communication between patient, family and healthcare provider to ensure that the child’s needs are met, and family satisfaction.
      7.Good communication skills, so as to render effective patient care.
