the word team can mean so many different things to different people. i think on of the biggest things with any teamwork, is understanding all the others expectations of what being part of the team actually means.
an example that comes to mind is my fiance’s golf. he plays on two teams – scratch and mid-amateur. there are set fixtures and the dates come out at the beginning of every year, so that people can plan. both teams represent the club at which they are all members. its a voluntary team, if you are good enough to play at that level you are invited to join the team, but you don’t have to. the scratch team works well generally, they always have enough players and don’t have to forfeit games to opponents by not fulfilling their match. the mid-am team however has many members who decide last minute sorry I don’t feel like playing and the team ends up having to forfeit. this affects the league and and and ….. it seems to me that the scratch players are properly committed and regardless of if they feel like it or not, will show up. they have made that commitment to their members, the club and their opponents and so will honour it. the mid-am players on the other hand don’t seem to follow suit. maybe their understanding of team is very different….????
