Being culturally competent means to be understanding, respectful and non-judgemental to those who are of different cultures and background. With us living in South Africa, we have such a diverse number of ethnicities, which is why we are deemed the rainbow nation and with that comes many cultures and subcultures. In a healthcare environment, one has to be very understanding of this, and I think if us as a multidisciplinary team is not fully knowledgable culture and belief systems with regards to specific religions, a nice way to incorporate everyone working together and understanding better would be to maybe have a priest/pastor/sheikh, etc maybe come in and have an MDT meeting with the family and the entire team and this will allow everyone to have common ground with regards to understanding and treating the cultural aspect of the child better
