Palliative care is a widely ignored and hushed topic in the medical community. Most Palliative care providers also have not been through the experience of caring for an ill child and consequently losing that child. I personally feel that as a parent, it would have benefited me greatly to have someone on my side who has been through it, not from a medical point of view but rather personal, so I aim to be that person. I want to be the voice of the voiceless, advocate for Children’s Palliative care and parents wherever possible. Whether that is in a spokesperson role, a volunteer or a social worker is to be determined. I just know that my aim is to give my daughter’s life and death meaning through raising awareness and trying to make a difference and impact in the palliative care community. So many parents and children go through this struggle daily and it’s crucial that they do not go through it alone.
