I am Elianna de Clercq, an occupational therapist. I only completed my community service year in 2024, but realised through specific clients that I am not sure what my role as OT is in paediatric palliative care, specifically in supporting the primary caregiver of these children. That is why I embarked on my research journey at the University of Pretoria and am doing this course. I would like to learn general information regarding paediatric care, what each professional’s role is in this care as well as learn more about the lived experience of caregivers/ families/ parents. I feel very strong about early introduction of palliative care, but know this is a very sensitive topic, even more so for children.
I look forward to learning more from you as participants and the course itself!
