The best way for there to be holistic care is an interdisciplinary approach. I think in our resource scarce environments that we work in, it can be difficult.

I have worked previously at a tertiary facility that has a great system in place. The paediatric neurology team have a weekly meeting with ALL involved multidiciplinary team members. patients are seen the previous week and are highlighted during the rounds. Dieticians, physio, OT , speech therapy, social worker, and relevant doctors meet and discuss further management on completed cases. they try and keep it to a maxium of three patients so that meetings do not go past the allocated time. It helps ensure everyone is on the same page for those specific cases.

Another example, also at the same facility, was paediatric ICU grand rounds would occur once a week with the entire team caring for the patient and everyone was able to provide input. This would prevent different teams taking time out for a separate meeting and it would occur while you would have had to see your patient for your daily round. I felt it was a great approach.
