      I think the core of being culturally competent is understanding your patient, listening (and hearing them), listening to their parents or caregivers and truly understanding their needs, their wants and desires. It is so important to keep in mind that each patient (and their family’s) spiritual and religious beliefs, as well as their cultural background, should be respected and supported, regardless of their age. Healthcare workers should also take time to understand and learn about each patient individual’s belief system
