AT times I am overwhelmed as I find myself being ALL the team members for those patients and families that I care and support as unfortunately I am the only palliative care specialist in our area. I therefore do value being part of a virtual network of palliative care providers nationally and make ongoing use of the expertise in these groups.

I struggle to communicate or deal with my colleagues, particularly when they hold higher positions and their actions don’t align with workplace values, especially if their actions disadvantage the patients. This is challenging when you’re new to a workplace, as I tend to see them as authority figures, similar to parents. Consequently, I often refrain from speaking up or voicing my concerns during departmental meetings due to fear of judgment.

I find that the majority of the medical personnel value my input as part of the MDT.They will approach me to find out information from the caregiver/parent especially when I have built up a solid relationship with the patient.I am often able to provide them with information that is very useful in the management of the patient and /or family.

I find it challenging to communicate with my manager after having meeting with the multidisciplinary team and parents. Giving her feedback about the discussion she feels that I’m better than her and why do they choose me not her as the manager of the unity. After that she will confront the parent which makes the parent to have trust issues
