I learnt alot from this course- I already knew many aspects about palliative care but I have increased my knowledge and confidence vastly and most recently I planned a family meeting about a patient with a life-limiting condition and drew up an Advanced care plan which had been daunting for me.
I will definitely endeavor to communicate more and better. And I hope to identify patients with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions earlier so that palliative care can be introduced.
Thankfully already 2 of my colleagues are amazing at palliative care and also love to teach so we all will continue to uplift our patients and our colleagues.
My next step is to counsel a patient so I will keep striving to counsel caregivers and request permission to talk to their child about their condition – so far most caregivers I have come across are reluctant for a doctor to reveal the diagnosis to their child.
