I have learnt alot about the different assessment tools. When dealing with a child, it is difficukt to assess their pain, especially if they are non verbal.
The assessment tools help standardised care so assess and record the childs pain and symptoms, emotions, family dynamics, social and spiritual factors.
They help with communication eg through the Geonograms and FICA, as they help and guide to understand the family, child, their beliefs, and guides the conversation therefore not replying on the patient and family to remember all the information they need to give you. Its guided by questions.
The FLACC helps interpret symptoms especially when the child is unable to communicate what is worrying them.
The tools also help to empower families as the assessment is a structured tool, and gives the family and patient the opportunity to express their needs by helping them feel heard and involved.
