I have already started setting up meetings to share my learnings with the team I work with in the ward. We have meetings in the morning where we can share information and have discussions about different topics that are informative for our work. I have set up a discussion for my next shift on having “A Good Death”. Recently we have had quite a few children pass in the ward and I want to share the lessons we learnt on the best ways to provide EOL care to patients and their families, plus the reasons for certain actions we do and medications we give. I’m hoping this discussion will also open up a space to debrief about the impact these deaths have had on us as a team and we can talk about coping mechanisms.
I’d like to continue this with different topics as time goes on.
I feel I am far more equipped to talk to parents and children according to their developmental stages. This has increased my confidence and I believe that is having a positive impact on my relationship with my patients and their families.
