I have been aware of this date for a few years now, but only completed the symptom management today, so was not able to contribute my ideas. However, there are many years to come and not only that, but every day gives us the opportunity to help in some way. I work in a hospital setting with a large cardiac ICU (children’s) as well as a neonatal ICU and there are always children and their parents who need to know about palliative care. Furthermore I am a paediatric neurologist and see children who require palliative care on a daily basis.
Perhaps we need to be more “present” and “visible” in hospitals, by putting up informative posters about what palliative care is, the role-players involved etc. Hoping that, that way, parents will not be so startled or overwhelmed if/when we mention the subject.
