      In any career we have to have the motive. this gives the energy to continue serving and moving on .For palliative care it is the desire to have the best of days for this patient with life threatening or limiting condition . It cushions the hurdles that may arise as we try to help this patient.
      At work we have some various strategies to reduce stress

      1. have time with our own families outside of work
      2. have shifts were we have time to knock off after a handover and make sure staff abide by them
      3. have days off work and take time to refresh
      4. have compassionate leaves granted .
      5. announce a colleague challenges or predicaments so as to commiserate with them
      6. have other clinicians to help like doctor of doctors . like pyschologists, pyschiatrist counsellors to help the service providers because some members of the palliative care team get emotionally attached to the extend of nervous breakdown

      I like all of these, but, there is always a but, time is such a factor. I find I then fill it with other things instead of sorting my mind out and then indulging in some of the suggestions above
