I recently I have been volunteering and visiting the paediatric wards at Rahima Moosa Mother & Child hopsital. I managed to get a collection of toys, puzzles, games etc donated and took these through to the hospital. When we handed them out and took time to play and interact with the little ones, their eyes lit up and it was a brief distraction from where they were and added a touch of brightness to their day.

I also spent time in the ward with the 0-3 months old babies who aren’t well enough to be discharged yet. The moms spend there days at their babies side sitting in a chair and even sleeping in the chair, feeding and holding their babies, they are all exhausted and having just given birth also very emotional and worried about their little ones. I would love to be in a position to be able to sit with them and offer support and counselling during this hard time, I noticed that just a friendly face is so appreciated and welcomed. Wish I could do more for these moms…
