      Hi everyone

In my work with families, I often find it helpful to create a story they can all relate to to help them describe how they each experience grief and share with one another where they are at in any point in time. This is obviously more suitable for school-going age children and not pre-schoolers.

One such story is that of the Whirlpool of grief. According to Khululeka.org, this was a tool created by a doctor working with children who needed a way to discuss grief and loss with them.

The story and the image is available as a donwloadable PDF on Khululeka’s website. Here’s the link: https://khululeka.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Whirlpool-of-Grief.pdf

Thank you for sharing this resource, Susan. I too have used this resource over the years in my practice and find it very helpful to assist client’s in understanding their emotions and how it can change from one moment to the next when grieving. Very valuable resource.
