After plucking up the courage at the end of our last webinar to ask the question, “How do we get institutions to take us seriously and see the value in the services we offer?” , with reference to ‘our’ little boy with retinoblastoma, Tracy very kindly inquired on the KZN Palliative WhatsApp group if there was a paed palliative contact at Greys Hospital who could assist. Within 1 min (seriously!) a doctor offered for me to call her. Not just any doctor, the head of paeds who also happened to have seen our little guy that morning and could answer all my queries and fill in my gaps, and I could answer hers questions about his home situation (she didn’t even know Hospice was involved!).
And going forward…? We have set up a date for me to join their MDT in January with a view to us offering our home-based rural palliative services to their paediatric patients, so that more children can be cared for at home! How absolutely incredible is networking 🤩!
Now we’re looking for contacts for running shoes because next year, we’re going to hit the ground running 🤣!!
