I think that a change in practice (or incorporating palliative care) will happen slowly over time within my team. The starting point will be increasing my awareness as well as the awareness of my team members on palliative care opportunities. As mentioned in the previous forum discussion, I started with an MDT palliative care presentation last month as a first step to increase this awareness. I was subsequently invited to share with 5th year medical students by our family physician about my learnings and reflections. I think some of the nest steps will include utilizing our paediatric ward round opportunities to identify any children and caregivers who may benefit from palliative care. (including end of life and terminal care plans). Following this, the next two practical changes I feel we can implement as an MDT are improving assessment, communication with families (primary caregiver) and pain management where necessary.
