I currently work at a hospital in a rural area, where I also visit nearby clinics as part of outreach programme. I found it really interesting to learn about the “home-based carers” at these clinics. They are hired and stationed at clinics to promote health awareness. Since they live within the community, they know the people well and can easily find anyone because they are familiar with the community and its leaders. They are great at spreading health messages. For example, one home-based carer helped us find a family with a teenager with cerebral palsy who didn’t have a wheelchair and had never received rehab. I was so impressed by their work. We need to support and educate home-based carers more so they can keep helping their communities.
