I think being aware of our amazing diverse humanity and how we react, make decisions, behave and deal with difficult situations is super important, especially in the context of palliative care. Reading again about the taboo topic of death, makes me remember my own path and journey, from starting this course (crying through every module) and realising now, half way through, that death is not taboo. U culture and belief systems around me wants me to think so, but the more I am able to face it, deal with it and meet it head on, I’m becoming to find understanding, I think it works the same with being culturally competent. Practicing meeting other cultures, trying to find empathy with human nature and putting ourselves out there to experience other insights into life, can only benefit ourselves and our world view, and also, super important, way we help others.
